English Singing Translation of:

Johannes Brahms: Salome, Opus 69, No. 8 (SMB #115)

(Salome; text by Keller)

Sings my sweet like a finch, sing I nightingale's song; if my love is a lynx, then I'll be a little snake. O you maidens young in the land, from the hills and over the sea! Leave to me the man so handsome, else you'll cause me pain. He shall know his defeat, to our glory and our praise! And he'll not make a move, he'll not make a single sound! O my playmates dear, leave to me my handsome man! He shall see how this romance can be such a flaming sword!
