English Singing Translation of:

Johannes Brahms: Minnelied, Opus 71, No. 5 (SMB #109)

(The loneliness of the field; text by Hölty)

Sweeter sounds the birds of song when the angel who conquered my youthful heart once bound, wanders in the grove. Redder blooms o'er hill and dale, greener lawns do grow where her fingers gently picked May blooming flowers. Oh without her all is dead; withered plants and blossoms, all; and no springtime sunset red would be beautiful to me. True and charming, loving friend, will you never leave me, that my heart like meadows green, may in rapture bloom!
