These MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) files are being provided so that you can hear the melodies, harmonies, and rhythms in the octavos available in SLOCUM'S MUSIC BULLETIN. They are complete songs, while the PDF samples are restricted to excerpts, due to file size and copyright considerations. These MIDI files are not designed to demonstrate acceptable artistic interpretations, since MIDI is not capable of such fine levels of musical nuance.
Your own sound board setup will determine the exact sounds you hear, but if you use the GENERAL MIDI selection, you will probably hear (on the piano-voice octavos) an oboe for the higher voices, a clarinet for the lower voices, and a grand piano for the piano accompaniment. If your default sounds are not acceptable, you may be able to substitute an instrument of your own choice for the 'offending' voice(s).
Please remember that these MIDI files are under copyright, as are the selections from Slocum's Music Bulletin, so please use them only for your personal perusal in making purchase decisions. Other use may violate copyright, so please ask if you intend to use the files for any other purpose.
